Hygge Haus is where you can always feel at home

The Danish word hygge is pronounced [ˈhykə], or in an English aproximation, "hoo-gah" or "hue-guh"

In Meik Wiking’s The Little Book of Hygge, The Danish Way to Live Well, Hygge is defined by a manifesto of the ten following principles of wellbeing: atmosphere, presence, pleasure, equality, gratitude, harmony, comfort, truce, togetherness and shelter (Wiking, 2016, p.46-47).

Meik explains that ‘Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience, rather than about things. It is about being with the people we love. A feeling of home. A feeling that we are safe, that we are shielded from the world and allow ourselves to let our guard down. You may be having an endless conversation about the small or big things if life - or just be comfortable in each other’s silent company - or simply just be by yourself enjoying a cup of tea’ (Wiking, 2016, p.6).

What better way to do this than through the cozy comfort and beauty of a handmade quilt lovingly crafted into existence. The pleasure of colours and fabrics patterned or solid; the harmony of the design, workmanship and intention of labour; the presence of love and care imbued into each crease and fold; is a comfort you can quite literally wrap yourself up in. For me, a quilt embodies the essence of Hygge. May you always have much hygge in your life.
